History 244 Modern Britain
Week Eleven

Futures
Though one should not ignore the powerful continuity in the way that the early twentieth century follows from the late nineteenth, both Europe and Britain were now being offered active models for a future starkly different from anything before 1925.
Once a fantasy of hunted revolutionaries, the Soviet Union was now a fact, and other models were emerging, as well.  How British culture and politics faced these models and their first clash of arms in the Spanish Civil War will make up much of the material for this segment.
