Accomplishments:

  • Redesigned college web site to incorporate new visual identity system.
  • Started monthly email newsletters for alumni and parents, increasing traffic to college web site.
  • Developed database-driven web sites to post news releases and campus publications.
  • Wrote programs to conduct student government elections on web.

Coordinate activities for storing and retrieving academic information such as student records, class schedules, and enrollment data as well as policies, procedures, program requirements, calendars, and directories. Maintain university’s World Wide Web site and expand the use of the web to provide information and services to students, faculty, applicants, and others.

Areas of responsibility include student scheduling, enrollment verification, approval for graduation, production and distribution of grade reports, and management of transcripts. Manage scheduling of classrooms, develop academic calendars, enforce academic policies and procedures, and monitor changes in the curriculum. Work with the university's computing center in developing data structures, transactions, and reports, for academic activities. Coordinate activities which make use of new technologies (including the campus network, the WWW, and IVR) to provide more effective services to students, faculty, and others in areas such as application for admission, scheduling and registration, transcript requests, submission of forms, access to student records, collection and distribution of grades, and dissemination of policies, procedures, and other information.

Accomplishments:

  • Redesigned the main University web site for external audiences to provide information about academic programs, admissions, events, and activities. Developed services such as a web-based admissions application, dean’s list and graduation listings, and a guestbook for alumni.
  • Improved internal communication with students and faculty by developing a variety of World Wide Web services, including the schedule of classes, searchable student and staff directories, class schedules for individual students, class lists for faculty, and information about policies and procedures.
  • Took over the production of the academic catalogs and reorganized their structure. Revised and rewrote sections on academic policies to make them easier for students to understand. Converted catalogs for WWW server.
  • Redesigned registration packet sent to students, eliminating and consolidating material from ten separate items into a single four-page brochure with clear instructions and useful information.
  • Developed a newsletter to keep faculty informed of dates and deadlines and changes in academic policies and procedures. Prepared guide on using the academic database to assist staff and faculty.

Director of Microcomputer Services, August 1986 - September 1990

Program director of Microcomputer Services, a division of the Computer Center. Operated student labs and a Faculty Microcomputer Support Center and provided microcomputer support services to staff, faculty and administrators. Prepared budgets, supervised a professional employee and student workers, purchased equipment and supplies, and organized department services to meet the needs of computer users throughout campus.

Accomplishments:

  • Served as a member and drafted the final report of the Academic Computing Futures Committee.
  • Developed software (including a menu program) to be used on campus microcomputers.
  • Taught introductory and intermediate workshops for faculty and staff on microcomputer software.
  • Prepared manuals for microcomputer lab users and started a monthly column in the university newsletter with information for microcomputer users.
