IS 401: Interdisciplinary Seminar
  Global Futures

Dickinson College: Fall  2009

Professor Bova
Seminar Description

This seminar will examine broad trends and trajectories in early twenty-first century global affairs. The seminar's content is interdisciplinary-- including readings that integrate international relations theory, international economics, US foreign policy, and diplomatic history. As such, the goals of the seminar are both to:

a) look backwards in an effort to integrate and apply previous coursework of the IS major, and
b) look forward in an effort further to prepare you to discuss important policy and theoretical issues during the IS orals.

The first two-thirds of the semester, up to the in-class exam, will be reading intensive as we meet each week to discuss some common reading from provocative books or articles which address large global trends. In the last third of the semester, common reading will be light as you work intensely to finish the research and writing of your seminar paper.
